Damon Rees – UK Update!
I hope you are well, it sounds like everything is going back to “normal” back home!
I finally have some good news for you! I went to my first track day in the UK today! As of yesterday, the English Lockdown eased enough to allow track-days to run, and luckily our team owner got in quick and booked us a spot for a track-day at Donington! It was awesome for Shane Richardson and I to finally “dust off the cobwebs” and have our first ride aboard our Astro JJR Racing BMW S1000rr’s!
The bike was incredible to ride, and very minimal changes were needed for the bike to suit my riding style. I instantly “gelled” with it for sure! And wow, Donington has to be one of the best tracks I’ve ever ridden! We were also blessed with amazing weather and ideal track conditions to top it all off. Words can’t describe how great it was to ride, we have definitely faced some trialling times over the past few months, but it’s all worth it now that I’ve gotten out on track!
In regards to racing, BSB will be announcing the revised calendar this week and it definitely won’t be until at least July before we start racing… Although it isn’t ideal, it will hopefully allow me to get a few more days of testing in before racing starts – which is always a good thing. I have starting Video Blogging again, and will share Episode Two of “Damon Rees – Kiwi Invasion of the BSB” in early July, which will have an in-depth look at how my track days are going.
Currently we have track-days booked for the 23rd June at Cadwell Park, and 30th June at Snetterton, but, the team is working hard to book us in for more track-days if possible.
I can’t thank you enough for your support this season, it’s definitely been a unique start, but it will definitely be worth it once racing starts!
I will send another update once I know more about the revised BSB Calendar.
